Muddy Point

Hey! It's Kara S. and I still don't understand how to set up the table and calculate half lives!

  1. Hey Kara! OK, so you set up the table by having three columns and one column should be for numbers of half life then time and then grams of....After that you start out with 0 # of half lives, time:0 and then the problem should give the grams. Like on UP pg 29 Problem B, it says "If you had a 5-gram of Lawrencium, how much would still remain after 30min?" So the grams should be 5. The table says Lawrencium=180seconds and 180seconds=3min. So, the table should be #ofhalflife=1, time=3min, and grams=2.5. It is 2.5 BECAUSE you HAVE to divide 5 grams in half. and you continue on by #ofhalflife-> 1-etc and time 3 being added by 3 again and then 6 to 9 etc, & the grams would keep dividing by half as the #ofhalflives and time continues. Well, Hope THAT HElps!!!
