The baby goes through three stages of development in the mother's uterus- the first trimester, 2nd trimester, and 3rd trimester. In the first trimester the baby starts out as a 1 inch long embryo that starts to develop his/her main organ systems. In the 2nd trimester the fetus begins to mimics life outside the womb and the brain begins to control the movements of the body. In the 3rd trimester the baby grows as big as it can and starts to develop memory. The longer the baby stays in the uterus, the healthier it will be. The mother gives birth through contractions that are initiated by oxytocin and the cervix stretches 10 cm wide for the baby to come out. Pregnancy and delivering the baby is both painful and stressful for the mother... hope this helps!
