Point in the mud

Hey guys it's Shane, there is only one thing that I'm not sure about. I'm not sure about what natural selection has to do with survival of the fittest and if you could tell me that would help.

Huntington's Disease

Huntington's disease is found on the 4TH chromosome. It is INHERITED if one or both of your parents have the dominant allele, then you would either have a 25% of having it or a 75% of having it (only depending if one or both of your parents has it). It gets passed down from family to family and either begins in the middle of your life, 40-50, or in the childhood of your life. The CAUSE of it is when both of or one of your parents has the disease. This als determines which type of Huntington's disease you would get. The two types are EARLY-ONSET or ADULT-ONSET untington's disease. The CAG gene is usually repeated 10-28 times, but in Huntington's disease case it is repeated 36-120 times.

SYMPTOMS/SIGNS/DIAGNOSIS

- Behavioral disturbances

- Hallucinations

- Irritabality

- Moodiness

- Restlessness or fidgeting

- Paranoia

- Psycosis

- Abnormal reflexes

- Hesitant in speking or annunciation

TREATMENTS

- Dopamine blockers may help reduce abnormal behaviors

- Medicines such as amantadine and tetrabanazine control extra movements

PREVELENCE IN POPULATION/ LIFE EXPECTANCY

In about 100,ooo people 6 or 7 of them will have Huntington's disease worldwide. It is also more common in the western half of he world. For people who have this disease their life expectancy will be 15-20 years after they get it.

Muddiest Point!!!

Hey guys its Shane, and this is my muddiest point. The thing I'm confused on is the difference between the genotypic ratio and the parents genotypes. I'm kind of counfused on which one to put down when it says parents genotypes and if you could help that would be cool.

Scribe o da day

Hey guys it's Shane, and in class today we learned about AUTOSOMAL RECESSIVE DISORDERS and PROBABILITY!!!!

Probability consists of three different things. One of them is EXPECTED. This means the fifty fifty chance. Say you were to flip a coin ten times, you would expect it to land on heads five times and it to land on tails five times. But if you were to ACTUALLY flip the coin it more likely not land five and five. The difference between expected and actual probability would be called the DEVIATION. Deviation also means that if you have more tries than the percent will more likely be close to fifty percent for each side. Say if you were to have had three sons the probability would be 1/8th.

1/2 * 1/2 * 1/2=1/8

You would multiplie 1/2*1/2*1/2 because it is a 1/2 chance of getting a son. As you can see that the answer was smaller because of DEVIATION.

Autosomal Recessive Disorders are NON-SEX disorders, since AUTOSOMAL means non-sex linked. When you have a autosomal recessive disorder you have to have two recessive alleles to be able to have the disorder. BUT, for Autosomal DOMINANT disorders you can have either one or two dominant alleles to have the disease.

Muddiest Point

Hey, guys I'm kind of confused on the difference between a regular T-cel and a helper T-cell. Also I'm kind of confused on how T-cells change into helper T-cells.
