Unit 1 Reflection!

It's me, Heidi!!! I KNOW it's REALY REALY late to post my unit one reflection! Hope I still get a tiny bit of credit. :/ Unit one was deffinatly fun! Working with jumping beans and microscopes OH! and tetrahymena was VERY interesting! I wonder what the "beans" are going to turn into, because I remember Mrs. Stein saying that they grow into moths or some kind of insect!!! That would be SO cool to see!!! Don't you guys think so too? I sure do! I never know how to end these posts besides saying........bye. So.....BYE!!!!

Help me straighten this out!

Unit 2 was kind of confusing for me. Honestly, I didn't like working with food chains and food webs, but I think I kind of get it now. But now I need some clarity on numbers pyramids, energy pyramids, and mass pyramids... What are their differences and how do they work?? I just don't understand the functions of these pyramids...

So here's my advice about your problem. (The first image is a better example!)


Well, do you know that:
1st trophic level is producer
2nd is primary consumer (Herbivores)
3rd is secondary consumer. (Consumers)
Remember that producers are autotrophs that makes their own food; i.e. plants, bacteria's.
And consumers are heterotrophs which cannot make its own food, so they rely on producers or other consumers; i.e. animals, humans.

Unit 1

Hey its JonathanB. I thought Unit 1 was really cool because we got to experiment on the jumping beans and see how they reacted to the different climates they were in. Who ever knew that there would a living organism inside that bean causing it to jump?! I had some trouble understanding this unit, but i hope the next unit will be as fun as the first one. The Tetrahymena lab was pretty fun because we saw all those vacuoles form inside the cells!

Reflections on Unit 1!

Hey, Wow! Yeah I'm going to have to agree that this unit flew by! It was very fasted paced and time effiecient. I enjoyed the jumping bean lab. I learned a lot from it. I liked how most of us didn't know what the organism was, so we really had to observe and make inferences on those observations like real scientists! In all honesty, that Tetrahymena lab caught me off guard. I was confused from the beginning, and nothing made sense from there on. But now that I have that experience, I know how fast the class moves and how to stay on top of things. This unit was very interesting though. We also learned how to identify living organisms from non-living organsims. Overall, this was a great unit!

Unit One Reflection

Hi its Jarod. Unit one was exciting. We learned many new things like how to adjust a microscope and how to observe and infer. One of the big labs were the jumping beans. The way they moved was so unrealistic. The labs with the microscopes were cool too. The refresh of how to sight the microscope and how the powers were to be adjusted helped. Over all it was a good unit. Looking forward to the next unit.

Unit One!

Hello! It's Rachie. I do agree with other's that this Unit has gone through fast. I enjoyed working with the microscope since i've never done something like that before. (my school never used one). It was also a good experience working with the jumping beans! I've never seen them before, and I'm happy that I actually got a chance to. Sure this unit was quite hard, but it's freshman year! Of course it's going to be hard, but thats how we learn! I'm honestly very excited for what Mrs. Stein has to offer freshman year! I know it's going to be awesome.

Unit 1!!

Hi it's Catie! I thought unit one was interesting, because the jumping beans were really fun! Seriously they were super cool! Some content in unit one was a bit on the confusing side, but overall it was a fun unit! I especially liked looking at the cells in the microscope! it was awesome!

Unit One

Hey guys! Well this first unit has gone by really fast actually. Something that was really interesting to me was the jumping beans. I've always wondered what made them have movement and it was really cool to learn what was actually inside of them. Also, its nice to really be hands on in class with experiments and such because last year we only did about 5 experiments so this unit has kept my interest unlike last year.

Unit 1!

Hey guys, it Erika!! Alright so I thought unit 1 was really interesting! The only reason I knew what the jumping beans were, because they had them in a little shop in Lake Geneva that I went to about 2 weeks before school! Weird. But their pretty awesome! No offense but learning about the microscope was a litte boring, but that's okay :) because everything else was really fun! The Tetrahymena lab was super cool, and I loved it. Seeing the cells up so close, was amazing! Can't wait to start Unit 2.

Nature of Science - DONE!!

Yay we made it through the first unit! I thought 9th grade science would blow me off and overwhelm me, but our first unit was exciting and enjoyable. On the first couple days of school, to be honest, my brain was filled with worries about grades, teachers and homework. I was so anxious and nervous about this school year.
When we were introduced to jumping beans, I had no clue what they were, and I had no idea they were larvae's inside a seed pod, but it was fun observing and experimenting with these creatures.
Learning about all the microscope functions were boring, but I realized if we didn't go over those things, observing the cells would have failed, because we would've been lost to do what's next or how to control the microscope. Overall, it was a fun unit to start off biology and it wasn't that overwhelming as I thought it would be.
