Muddiest Point

so my muddiest point from the unit is knowing what has to happen before primary or secondary succession & what the difference between primary & secondary succession

  1. Primary Succestion is when an enviorment starts from scratch. After a volcanic eruption or the passing of a glacer, plants are destroyed and life must start from the beginning. A pioneer species first forms and creates suitable living conditions. an example of this is a Lichen. Lichen break down rock and form soil. once enough soil is available, then plants begin to grow.

Secondary Succestion is when the enviroment start with some soil and plants stilll there. After a natural disaster (wildfire, hurricane, ect..), some plants still exsist, so it is easier for plants to start growning agian. Since some plants survived, they spread seeds around the area, causing more to grow.

One differrence between Primary and Secondary Succestion is that Primary Succestion takes longer then Secondary succetion. ince the enviroment has to start over, it takes a much longer time for big organisms to grow, where in secondary succestion some plants survive and can spread seeds around quickly. Another difference is that in primary succestion, enviroments start from scratch and in secondary some soil and plants are still there.

    hope this helps!
